Product Introduction
Lipid Depleted Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS) has reduced endogenous lipid, triglyceride, and cholesterol content—achieved via solid-phase matrix degreasing—and contains approximately one-third the lipid levels of standard FBS.
Lipid depleted fetal bovine serum is a naturally derived supplement widely used in cell culture. It provides abundant nutrients essential for cell growth and is commonly employed in the in vitro culture of animal cells, serving critically important functions:
1. Supplies hormones required to sustain exponential cell growth; nutrients absent or present only in trace amounts in basal medium; and key low-molecular-weight nutrients (e.g., amino acids, vitamins, and carbohydrates).
2. Provides binding proteins that recognize and bind vitamins, lipids, metals, and hormones—thereby modulating their bioavailability and activity.
3. In certain cases, serum proteins sequester toxic metals and pyrogens, contributing to detoxification.
4. Supplies adhesion factors enabling cell attachment to and spreading on plastic culture surfaces.
5. Acts as a pH buffer.
6. Contains protease inhibitors that neutralize residual trypsin during subcultivation, thereby protecting cells from enzymatic damage.

Product Application
Lipid depleted fetal bovine serum can be used to study the correlation between protein kinase CK2-α′ and lung metastasis in adenoid cystic carcinoma.
1. Protein kinases constitute the largest family of enzymes involved in catalyzing protein phosphorylation—the most common post-translational modification regulating cellular processes. Among them, casein kinase 2 (CK2), also known as protein kinase CK2 or CK2 holoenzyme, is one of the most extensively studied and constitutively active serine/threonine kinases. CK2 is a heterotetrameric enzyme composed of two catalytic subunits (α and α′) and two regulatory subunits (β).
2. The CK2 holoenzyme consists of two αα′ββ-type heterodimers with molecular weights of approximately 42–44 kDa (catalytic subunits) and 38 kDa (regulatory subunits), respectively. Its structure is highly stable and dissociates only under denaturing conditions in vitro. In addition to cellular substrates, CK2 also phosphorylates several viral proteins. CK2 participates in diverse cellular processes—including transcription, signal transduction, proliferation, and other steps contributing to tumorigenesis.
