RPMI 1640 Medium uses a sodium bicarbonate buffer system (2000 mg/L), contains reduced glutathione, and features elevated concentrations of vitamins, conferring distinct functional properties compared with other media. L-Alanyl-L-glutamine (a stable dipeptide alternative to L-glutamine; product code C3547) offers improved stability, reduced accumulation of toxic ammonia resulting from degradation, enhanced cellular health, and increased cell viability.
Product Application
RPMI 1640 medium was developed in 1966 by Moore et al. through an improved formulation of McCoy’s 5A medium; it is primarily used to support the growth of lymphoblasts in suspension culture and is now widely used for culturing various adherent cell types.
