Product Introduction
Initially, the amino acid and vitamin concentrations in this medium formulation were borrowed from their counterparts in Eagle and M199, respectively. This was followed by an increase in folic acid, vitamin B12 and peptone, and an improved formula was finally published in 1960.
Product Application
McCoy's 5A (Modified) Medium is a general-purpose medium that uses a sodium bicarbonate buffer system (2200 mg/L) to support the proliferation of explants from many types of primary cells, mature cell lines, and biopsied tissues. Unlike other media, McCoy's 5A contains the reducing agent glutathione, peptone, and a high concentration of glucose (3000 mg/mL).
